Boston Red Sox beat Detroit Tigers 7-4 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox beat Detroit Tigers 7-4 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Monday, May 28 in the opening game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The Red Sox used their home conditions extremely effectively to create all sorts of problems for the Tigers. David Ortiz looked in commanding form as he doubled to left in the first and Adrian Gonzalez scored the first run for Boston.
Delmon Young finally managed to get a majors homer run, leveling score 1-1 in the second inning. Credit should be given to the Red Sox for the way they pressurized their rivals in the second inning.
Mike Aviles had an RBI single to centre and Daniel Nava doubled to deep centre to extend Red Sox’s lead to 3-1. Dustin Pedroia also joined they part with infield single to second as Bobby Valentine and company took complete control of the situation.
"I got another swing, got another hit, one run scored there and we ended up scoring two more right after that," Aviles said. "It helped us out, gave us momentum and we kept rolling from there."
"He'll probably have some tests," Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said. "Right now I don't think he could play tomorrow, if I was a betting man. But don't bet on it."
"There shouldn't have been a second-inning rally," Leyland said. "There were three outs. I've been in the game a long time. ... You guys need to write something and hold people accountable."
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, once again, proved what an asset he is for his team as he homered to left in the third to dent Tigers’ confidence levels. Gerald Liard home run in the fifth kept Tigers’ hopes alive. However, Will Middlebrooks’ infield singled in the
sixth and Aviles’ RBI double in the eighth forced the Tigers completely out of the contest.
With Jhonny Peralta’s home run in the ninth, Jim Leyland’s side ended the game on a positive note but they were unable to deny the Red Sox a deserving victory. It will be interesting to see if the Red Sox can finally cross the .500 win percentage barrier
in their next game.
