Boston Red Sox beat Minnesota Twins 6-4 to avoid series sweep – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox managed to avoid a humiliating series sweep as they edged the Minnesota Twins 6-4 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Sunday, August 5 in the finale of their four match series.
Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez provided the Red Sox with an excellent start. Gonzalez homered in the fifth and Cody Ross earned an RBI single to centre in the seventh to help Boston tighten the screws on their opponents. Starting pitcher Franklin Morales
pitched six solid innings, giving up just a run for his third win of the season.
Minnesota displayed some top quality baseball skills in first three games to take an impassable 3-0 lead. Starting pitcher Samuel Deduno showed just what he is capable of as he pitched six scoreless innings in series opener to shut-out the Red Sox.
The Twins continued their excellent work in Game 2 as well, rallying for a 6-5 win. Ron Gardenhire and company may not be having their best as far the results are concerned; they certainly have the capacity to floor even the best in the business. It will
be interesting to see if the Twins can give similar performances for the next two months to end the season on a high note.
"I think it's an easy decision. We just have to figure out all the parts," Valentine said. "He wants to start and I want him to start. We can't always count on a guy getting injured to get him out there."
"We've had a pretty good feeling. One big hit, a couple of walks, take some pitches and try to make them throw some pitches," Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire said. "You get a couple of guys on, you never know what's going to happen. We've had some success
battling, we've been in a lot of close ballgames lately."
Despite their win on Sunday, the Red Sox remained at fourth place on the American League East Division standings table. Manager Bobby Valentine will be an extremely worried man these days and surely, he will be looking to come up with better tactics in the
next series to give Boston’s fans something to cheer about.
