Boston Red Sox beaten by Detroit Tigers 3-7 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox were beaten by Detroit Tigers 3-7 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Thursday, May 31 in the finale of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Tigers finally showed just what they are capable of as they dominated their opponents in almost all aspects of the game. Max Scherzer made the most of available opportunities in pitching department of the game. Tigers’ starting pitcher looked extremely comfortable
on the mound as he retired nine consecutive batters.
Scherzer gave up just three runs on seven hits to win for the third straight time. It will be interesting to see if he can continue his excellent throwing form throughout this season to cement his place on Tigers’ pitching rotation.
Prince Fielder also had a decent outing as he drove in crucial runs for his team. Quintin Berry and Brennan had a hit each as the Tigers took a handsome 3-2 lead in the third.
However, the star of the show was Delmon Young who hit a mighty home run to left in the eighth to help Detroit take complete control of the situation. Boston’s starting pitcher Josh Beckett took his fourth loss of the season as he allowed four runs and season
high ten hits.
"I made some pitches when I needed to and I didn't make some other ones," Beckett said in a post game interview. "We kind of talk about this a lot, you're going to have five pitches in a game that you have to make, and I think I made three of them today.
The other two it cost me three runs in one inning."
"We just let him off the hook," Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said. "Heck, we had his pitch count up in the 80s after four innings and we were having good at-bats. Just kind of let it slip away."
Red Sox had the better of the Tigers in the first three games of the series and they were expected to complete their series sweep with an emphatic win in the finale. However, Tigers lifted their spirits just at the right time.
