Boston Red Sox beaten by Minnesota Twins 5-6 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox were beaten by the Minnesota Twins 5-6 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Friday, August 3 in second game of their four match series.
The Twins crushed the Red Sox in series opener as well and they continued to play aggressively on Friday evening to take an impassable 2-0 lead in the series.
Ron Gardenhire and company may be at the bottom of American League Central Division standings, they have the capacity to beat even the best in the business. The Red Sox will have to regroup and fight back in Game 3 to keep their playoffs hopes alive.
Right now, Bobby Valentine and his men are placed fourth on the AL East Division standings and it will be interesting to see if they can find a way to overcome the Twins in Game 3 of this series.
"We had chances. We just didn't come through," Dustin Pedroia said in a post game interview. "They made some good pitches. It's to their credit, too. It's just tough."
Adrian Gonzalez had a decent time on the plate for the Red Sox as he singled to left centre in the third inning to give his side a crucial lead. Carl Crawford produced another heroic performance, driving in a three run shot in the third to give Boston complete
control of the situation but the Twins were in no mood to give up.
"(We) keep battling," said Carroll. "They got ahead early, but we felt like there was plenty of time. We've always seemed to come back and make it close. A lot of times, we haven't been able to get over the hump. It seems like lately we've found a way to
get the big hit."
Josh Willingham, Justin Morneau and Danny Valencia combined to hit three runs in the fifth to level the score 5-5. Jamey Carroll delivered the match winning single to right centre in the extra inning.
Boston’s starter Felix Doubront had another tough outing as he gave up five runs and eight hits in just five innings. Relief pitcher Vicente Padilla took the loss after allowing an RBI single to Carroll in the tenth.
