Boston Red Sox beaten by Tampa Bay Rays 2-5 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox were beaten by the Tampa Bay Rays 2-5 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Tuesday, September 25 in the opening game of their two match series.
Left hander David Price looked on top of his game-play on Tuesday evening as he struck-out season high 13 batters to play a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash. Rays’ starting pitcher dominated the Red Sox’s batting line-up, allowing just two runs
in nine sharp innings to grab his 16th win of the season.
"It happens sooner or later. You want to go out there and win, but when you don't have a feel for pitches that you usually are able to throw for a strike or the area you want to throw them, it's tough to go out there and win," Clay Buchholz said.
"I decided if he threw it I'm swinging. He gave it to me and I put a good swing on it," said Keppinger, who drove in a run for Rays. "I had no idea. I just knew I was trying to hit it hard if he threw me a fastball."
It was Price’s second complete game of the season and credit should be given to him for the way he has handled some difficult situations this season. Price is scheduled to start in more games before the end of the season and it will be interesting to see
if he can claim 20 wins for the first time in his career.
Rays entered the match-up three games behind the Oakland Athletics for the second American League Wild Card spot. Considering there are eight games remaining, the Rays still have a slim chance of making it to the playoffs.
Rays’ counterpart from the Red Sox, Clay Buchholz gave up five runs on eight hits in just six innings to take his seventh loss of the season. Relief pitchers Scott Atchison, Andrew Miller and Vicente Padilla combined to give pitch three scoreless innings
but their effort also went in vain as the Rays held on to their lead comfortably to claim a much needed victory.
Tampa Bay will be feeling good as they managed to take on the mighty Red Sox and get a decisive victory over them.
