Boston Red Sox beaten by Toronto Blue Jays 3-7 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox failed to take advantage of their home ballpark as they lost to Toronto Blue Jays 3-7 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Saturday, July 21 in second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia had an excellent time on the plate and he provided Boston with a decent start. Connecting for a three run shot against Blue Jays’ starting pitcher Carlos Villanueva, he gave his team the early momentum.
However, the Blue Jays fought back superbly. Edwin Encarnacion and J.P. Arencibia homered in the sixth and the seventh to help their side come back from behind to clinch a memorable victory. Red Sox starter Cook conceded five runs on four hits in six plus
innings to take his second loss of the season.
"If I had two pitches to take back the whole game, those would be the only two," Cook said. "I felt like, other than that, I was in a pretty good rhythm, putting the ball really where I wanted to. Just those two bad pitches, they made me pay for them tonight."
Blue Jays had the better of their American League East Division opponents in series opener as well. With their crucial win on Saturday, they have once again improved their record to .500 and it will be exciting to see if they can be productive in the finale
to hand the Red Sox a humiliating series sweep.
"Especially in our division, teams keep coming after you and coming after you," Dustin Pedroia said. "We need to try separate ourselves. There's nothing wrong with getting a five-, six-run lead. ... We need to make sure we have better at-bats and try to
pull away."
Red Sox, on the other hand, have no one to blame except for themselves as they paid the ultimate price for their lack of concentration. Right now, they are 48-47, occupying fourth place on the AL East standings table. Manager Bobby Valentine and company
will be looking to bring some serious consistency in their game-play to have any chance of going through to the playoffs.
