Boston Red Sox breathe easily as Josh Beckett’s ankle injury is dubbed ‘sprained ankle’ – MLB News
It has been confirmed that Boston Red Sox pitcher, Josh Beckett, has sustained a sprained ankle injury, as the news came from the team’s medical director Dr. Tom Gill on Tuesday, September 6. A statement had been issued to the press during the team’s night
fixture against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Beckett was carried off to the team’s foot specialist, Dr. George Theodore, after he suffered a right ankle injury during Monday’s game against the Blue Jays. The team will be taking this news in the positive light as the post season nears and the club has
decent chance of making it to the event on a wildcard position in the American League.
Beckett had to be flown back to Boston to receive medical treatment. He was eventually taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where Dr. Theodore evaluated the hurler’s injury.
"Josh was evaluated today at the Massachusetts General Hospital by the Red Sox medical staff, including team foot and ankle specialist, Dr. George Theodore," Dr. Gill said. "Josh experienced pain in his ankle while pitching last night. His examination was
consistent with an ankle sprain."
The ace ball thrower will miss his Sunday bout against the Tampa Bay Rays and that is something the team can live with.
"Oh yeah," Red Sox manager Terry Francona said in his pre-game address to the media. "I think that's common sense."
Losing the All-Star player to ligament damage would have been the last thing manager Terry Francona wanted. Beckett has turned in 12 wins and five losses for the season. He has started 27 games and his ERA is 2.49. The star player has 155 strike-outs for
the season and he has conceded 125 hits and 50 runs.
If the Red Sox make it to the playoffs, they will be in need of the pitcher’s skills. Their current pitching rotation looks great and with Beckett on board, there is always going to be a chance of winning big. It will be interesting to see what impact Beckett’s
injury will have on the team.
