Boston Red Sox bring back Matt Albers, option Alfredo Aceves to Triple-A Pawtucket – MLB Update
The Boston Red Sox made an important move before they took on the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim, as they included Matt Albers, who had been placed on the 15-day disabled list on the eighth of April.
The reliever was on a rehabilitation program and his recent two games outing for Triple A Pawtucket determined his fitness level.
In the two games he played, he pitched well over three innings, conceding just one hit and striking three hitters in the process. Alfredo Aceves has been determined as the likely candidate for his replacement and has been sent to Pawtucket.
Albers looked good when he came to the final 40-man squad after spring training. He was the last man selected and he took the opportunity well, pitching two hitless innings.
"I'm definitely excited to get back and feel healthy and feel ready," Albers said.
He further said that it was tough and he does not like to be on the disabled list. The veteran elaborated that missing out early has been an unfortunate situation for him but he feels good now. He said his strain went away quickly and that spelled good news
for him.
29-year-old Aceves, who has been assigned to Minor League duty, has an earned run average of 2.25, with five strike-outs in six games. The Red Sox are not concerned about his contribution, as they want him to push his performance in Triple A before he can
play in the Major Leagues.
"We're going send him down to start just to make sure of our starting depth," Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. "We've seen that in the past where we've run into problems, and we don't want it to happen. We've tried to assure him that we really like him,
but it's a tough message for them to hear when they're going down. But we also want him to be stretched out a little more."
Boston is abuzz with activity as the club is getting back to winning ways. They recently defeated the Los Angeles Angels, 4-2.
