Boston Red Sox centre fielder Jacoby Ellsbury avoids surgery – MLB News
The Boston Red Sox centre fielder Jacoby Ellsbury will not need any potential surgery on his subluxation right shoulder injury.
Team doctors and the California orthopaedist Dr. Lewis Yocum confirmed and calm down the Red Sox management that Ellsbury’s particular injury does not need any surgery.
Later the Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine also stated in the media on Tuesday evening.
He said, "There was a consensus of opinion on both the damage and how to proceed, He had some hand manipulation for range of motion. They're trying to take it slowly to get it better. I don't know that there is anything on the horizon other than the normal treatment and see how he does day by day,"
Valentine further added that Ellsbury’s MRI results showed very less chances of any potential surgery. According to team doctors and the doctors who are still taking care of his late injury have mentioned in the media that Ellsbury will be resting for four to six weeks. The Red Sox manager is also feeling that this kind of injury does need some time to heal.
In the meanwhile, Ellsbury’s replacement has also been called from the Minor League. Shortstop Mike Aviles will replace Ellsbury.
Bobby Valentine said for Ellsbury’s replacement explaining, “The top of the order wasn’t necessarily by design, he’s had pretty good at-bats, He had a 10-pitch at-bat (Monday). He’s hitting line drives. He’s a big threat for a leadoff hitter. Michael’s been really unnoticed by many the way he’s played.”
Experts say that the Red Sox have received a big blow as their one of the key and true professional individuals will be out four to six weeks. The Red Sox currently were going great into the 2012 Major League Baseball season, but with Ellsbury’s injury and potential rest, the team might not able to produce consistent results at the mid season break.
Ellsbury, a five year veteran, who was playing in this ongoing season with a hitting average of .192 along with three RBIs and .300 OBP, certainly considered one of the best role players in the league and his comeback in the Red Sox roster will be important in the near future.
