Boston Red Sox change 13 positions within organisation – MLB News
Since the September disaster during this past season, the Boston Red Sox has started their journey towards a newer organisation and to accomplish this, the administration is making changes in the structure at every possible position.
As, at the time to take charge as General Manger, Ben Cherington had stated to make changes within the organisation, the Red Sox now has announced 13 changes in the baseball operations department of the establishment on Tuesday afternoon in Boston.
"When I was offered the general manager position several weeks ago I knew the best part of the job was the people I was going to get to work with every day," Cherington said. "These promotions and additions, along with the extraordinary level of talent we
have throughout baseball operations, are a reflection of that."
To head the International Scouting department, Cherington did not hire the New York Mets former GM Omar Minaya, as was expected; instead he promoted Eddie Romero to the position to justify his opinion not to bring in any member outside the organisation.
Brian O’Halloran has been promoted to the assistant general manager position while Mike Hazen will serve now as vice president. O’Halloran has been a part of the club since 2002. Since then he has served the club as vice president of baseball operations
and baseball operations assistant. Special assistant to general manager, David Finley has been promoted to director of player personnel.
Hazen, who was serving the club as a vice president of player development and amateur scouting has been with the club for the last five seasons.
Assistant director of baseball operations, Zack Scott has been promoted to director of major league operations while Ben Crockett has been given chance to take charge as a director of player development. Crockett was serving the club as an assistant director
of player development for last full year. Galen Carr will now be associated with the club as a special assignment scout.
Amiel Sawdaye, who was director of amateur scouting, did not receive any promotion but his contract has been extended, which will extend his career to eleven years.
Raquel Ferreira has been promoted to senior director of Minor League operations from the director of Minor League operations, where she was serving for the last four years. Jared Porter will now serve as director of professional scouting. The only person
that Cherington did not give any position to is Craig Shipley, who has been removed as vice president of player personnel and international scouting.
