Boston Red Sox could re-sign David Ortiz – MLB Update
Some reliable sources are claiming that the Boston Red Sox organisation is serious to sign designated hitter David Ortiz for the next few years.
“As I said, we want to have David back, We've had good, amicable dialogue. I talked to Fernando (Cuza, Ortiz's agent) yesterday. We'll continue to keep talking. Our hope is to get something done. I'm sure we'll talk again this week sometime," general manager Ben Cherington said.
Earlier this was just speculation but now many hope that this deal is in its final touches as both sides are making final adjustment in the contract.
Free agent David Ortiz is likely to sign a short term contract with the Red Sox while some say it might have some lucrative incentives as well.
"I'm 36, and I know what I'm capable to do, I know what's fair and I know guys my age aren't going to get three-, four- or five-year deals anymore, so I want to play two more, and if things go good, I'll continue to play," Ortiz said.
Ortiz is in his last peak years and this potential contract will decide his future years in the Major League as well.
He has a very long relationship with the Red Sox as he has been playing in Boston since 2003. Before coming to the Red Sox, Ortiz played with the Minnesota Twins.
As he rose in the Major League with his exceptional hitting prowess, the Red Sox signed him and made him a very important part of the franchise.
He also showed respect to his franchise and started playing like a role model in the roster. During his stay in the Red Sox, they won two World Series Championships in which his role was significant. He proved his valour and made it possible for the Red Sox to win those two World Series titles.
Meanwhile, as his re-signing is a big subject in the media, many believe that he also wants to play for the Red Sox and with that desire he will likely get a new deal.
