Boston Red Sox crash to 3-5 loss against Cleveland Indians – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox continued their losing streak as they crashed to a 3-5 defeat against the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio on Thursday, August 9 in the opening game of their four match series.
After Cleveland took an early 1-0 lead, Adrian Gonzalez connected for a two run home-run to right in the fourth inning to bring the Red Sox back into the contest. Dustin Pedroia also made his presence felt with an RBI single to centre in the fifth to extend
Boston’s lead to 3-1.
For the Indians, Asdrubal Cabrera doubled to deep left and Carlos Santana singled to left in the fifth to level the score 3-3. Michael Brantley and Jason Donald also drove in crucial runs as Cleveland fought back to secure a comfortable 5-3 win.
Red Sox starting pitcher Felix Doubront paid the price for lack of concentration as he gave up seven hits and four runs in just over four innings to take his sixth loss of the season. His counterpart from Cleveland, Ubaldo Jimenez struck-out a season high
ten batters in six effective innings.
"A great job by Ubaldo," manager Manny Acta said. "That was probably his best command of the fastball. He was just dotting it on both sides."
"This was the best for me," Jimenez said in a post game interview. "I threw the breaking ball for strikes as well as the fastball. I'm going to be always grateful for what he did for me. He did all he could to help. He's going to be a good pitching coach
(somewhere) for a long time."
Red Sox Manager Bobby Valentine will be an extremely worried man these days. With just three wins in their last ten games, it seems the Red Sox have lost their way completely. Valentine will have to come up with a better game plan to change the course of
Red Sox destiny.
Indians, on the other hand, used their home conditions very efficiently to outclass their opponents in finer details of the game. They will be looking to continue the good work in their upcoming games to build on some much needed confidence.
