Boston Red Sox crushed the New York Yankees 3-0 in the third game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, June 02 at Yankee Stadium in New York.
With this win, the Red Sox also won the three-match series by 2-1. Last two games were consecutively won the Red Sox.
“I heard guys buckled a bit during the storm, I wasn't there but the satellite TV in my office went out,” New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi said.
Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz played brilliantly and literally won the game for his team. He pitched top five innings and allowed no run on 1.62 ERA. He struck out four and remained confident during his entire spell.
“I've felt really good up to this point, I'm just trying to ride the wave,” Buchholz said.
In-fact, the Red Sox’s entire roster played wonderfully in Sunday’s game. Their hitters also played well against the Yankees offensive pitching line-up.
Dustin Pedroia scored one run on one hit. He came to bat three times and hit hard with his consistent slugging percentage of .444.
Red Sox’s star designated hitter David Ortiz scored one run on two hits. He ran for an RBI and showed determination with his steady .618 slugging percentage.
“Three rain delays -- a fake one and two real ones, What else can you do? You just stick around and see how things end up. That's how you get yourself closer to the playoffs, Winning series, winning series, winning series,” Ortiz said.
Jose Iglesias also played well for the Red Sox as he scored one run on single hit. He ran for an RBI on his two at bats while he showed his commitment maintaining his .585 slugging percentage.
On the other hand, the Yankees could not play their natural game and lost bitterly in the end. Their pitchers and batters did not play well and disappointed the team.
Hiroki Kuroda started the game for the Yankees and allowed too many runs on the mound which proved one of the losing factors for them as well. He pitched over five innings’ spell and allowed three runs and eight hits.
