Boston Red Sox crush Tampa Bay Rays 9-2 – MLB News
Boston Red Sox continued to impress the critics as they outclassed the Tampa Bay Rays 9-2 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida on Wednesday, May 15 in Game 2 of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball
regular season.
Credit should be given to the Red Sox for executing their game plan to perfection. Red Sox’s pitching rotation in particular played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash, limiting the Rays to a very small total. Starting
pitcher Jon Lester showed the stuff he is capable of as he allowed just hits and two runs in seven innings to grab his sixth straight win of the season.
"It's bound to turn around," Drew said after the Red Sox won for just the third time in their last 12 games. "We know the past couple games haven't been too good with runners in scoring position, so tonight was a great night to
have and hopefully we can keep it going."
"It's just something I take pride in, being available every fifth day and being out there for my team," Price said. "I don't know how that's looking right now, but I'll just get re-evaluated (Thursday). The biggest thing is going
to be how I feel. Hopefully I can come in and play catch. That's what I have on my mind right now, so we'll see."
Lester is having the season of his life and it will be interesting to see if he can continue his heroic form to claim his first ever American League Most Valuable Player Award. Striking our batters at regular intervals and allowing
just two runs in a high scoring contest, Lester created all sorts of problems for the Rays’ batting lineup. Relief pitcher Koji Uehara and Jose De la Torre also made useful contributions as they combined to toss up two scoreless innings to help the Red Sox
hold on to their seven run lead.
Dustin Pedroia provided his team with a perfect start as he signed to centre in the third inning to put his side on the board. David Ortiz, Mike Napoli and shortstop Stephen Drew also made their presence felt as they drove in crucial
runs for their side.
