Boston Red Sox crush Toronto Blue Jays 18-6 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox destroyed the Toronto Blue Jays with their unmatched hitting performance to snatch a 18-6 win in an electrifying series starter played at Fenway Park in Boston on Tuesday, September 13 to take a 1-0 lead in the two game outing series.
Red Sox launched their fireworks in every inning except the third and fifth. A hitting train started in the bottom of the first and stopped in the bottom of the eighth when they cemented their obvious win.
Centre-fielder Jacoby Ellsbury and second baseman Dustin Pedroia each scored four runs. Pedroia hammered two home-runs and Ellsbury made one besides their earned runs. Carl Crawford followed both batters and scored three runs in the bottom half of the game
while Jarrod Saltalamacchia scored two runs on two hits.
Josh Reddick earned an RBI double to lead the game off in the first and then Ellsbury and Pedroia both made their first RBI singles to take the lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the second inning. One inning later, both again contributed but this time in the
form of a homer. Ellsbury stroked his 27th while Pedroia added his 20th of the season.
Bottom of the sixth and the eighth proved devastating for the opposition as the Red Sox piled four in the sixth and seven runs in the eighth. Pedroia launched his second home-run in the inning after Saltalamacchia added an RBI single. Pedroia scored a three
run crusher off the Blue Jays’ Brandon Morrow.
Seven runs in the eighth inning was the result of a joint attack by the batters. Adrian Gonzalez, Conor Jackson, Marco Scutaro, Saltalamacchia and Ellsbury gathered to record seven runs.
This win has taken the Red Sox into a dominating position in the League but they still looking to improve their performance.
"Not really," Pedroia replied when asked if he had taken the weight off the team. "We've got 15 games left and were up, what, four now? ... We're all taking it like it's the playoffs now."
Red Sox shared the same spot in the American League with Detroit Tigers and are four games short of the New York Yankees.
