Boston Red Sox crushed by Philadelphia Phillies 4-6 – MLB Recap
The Boston Red Sox were beaten by the Philadelphia Phillies in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Friday, May 18 at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
With this win, the Phillies have won their sixth straight game and improved their winning percentage to .525.
Starter Cole Hamels pitched enormously well and gave the Phillies a good psychological advantage over the Red Sox who have recently outclassed the Chicago Cubs in their two-match series.
Hamels remained confident on the mound for seven innings and gave only three runs along with six hits, three earned runs and struck-out nine.
After the game couple of reporters talked to Hamels and asked several questions. Hamels answered in detail and said, "I'm just doing everything I've done the past couple of years, I can't say there's any secret. We're able to battle and get runs and I'm able to hold it. It's the same sort of way I've gone out and pitched."
Hamels added, “I'm focused on trying to get wins, no matter how they come, If I can plug away and do my job, good things will happen and they have been."
Closer Jonathan Papelbon also played well and pitched a scoreless ninth inning and received much appreciation.
“I want to go out there and try to preserve all the wins I can for my starters, I think for me, I take a little extra pride in that.”
On the other hand, the Red Sox starter Daniel Bard did not play well as he gave too much spin without putting any strength behind the ball which resulted in real disaster for his team.
He went with five runs along with a homer, five earned runs, three hits and struck out only three Phillies batters.
The other Red Sox pitcher closer Franklin Morales also could not hold the Phillies’ batting offence who eventually won the game in the end.
Throughout the match, the Phillies never allowed the Red Sox to take control of the game instead they kept the pressure on until finally rupturing them in the ninth and went pass 6-4.
