Boston Red Sox decide to use Right-Hander Daniel Bard as starter, could change in future -MLB Update
The Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB) announced on Sunday, December 11, 2011, that they would be slotting right hander, Daniel Bard, as their starting pitcher once the Spring Training kicks off next year, but have also said that it is not a permanent
choice as they have decided to keep the option of using him as a closer open at the moment.
Keeping him as a starter is the choice the Red Sox have chosen to go with at the moment, but it all depends on what the team will be requiring later on when the 2012 MLB regular season is to begin and how their game play strategy would require the 26-year-old
to perform.
Red Sox manager, Bobby Valentine, expressed his desire in keeping the team fans happy along with regarding Daniel Bard as a cooperative individual.
"Daniel [said], as we would hope he would say, 'Hey, whatever's best for the team. I'm going to go into Spring Training saying, whatever’s best for the team.' But he's going to get innings as a starter would in Spring Training," Valentine said.
When their game playing is chalked out, Valentine also added that he will be a player who is going to be pitching two innings to four inning and even six innings, whatever the team will require, Bard is ready to do.
Seeing how the young pitcher has been ready to do whatever necessary for the team, general manger, Ben Cherington, also recognised the players commitment towards the club’ success.
"Daniel will prepare for camp as a starter, and we are confident he can succeed in that role," said Cherington. "Daniel is also prepared to pitch in whatever role helps us win the most games. We are fortunate to have someone with Daniel's ability and maturity
on our team, and he will be a big part of our success in 2012."
It will certainly be interesting to see how the planning turns out to be for the Boston Red Sox and right hander Daniel Bard when the regular season kicks off next year.
