Boston Red Sox defeat Baltimore Orioles 15-10 – MLB Update
The Boston Red Sox offence put on a scintillating show on Monday, July 18 to beat the Baltimore Orioles 15-10 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Maryland.
Despite being fatigued, the Red Sox came from behind in a seemingly tough game to win the first of three-game series.
“You guys are putting more into that than we are. If (we) had lost tonight, I wouldn't have used that as an excuse," Boston manager Terry Francona said. "Everybody is a little tired tonight, but you do what you're supposed to do."
The game saw its turn in the eighth inning when the Red Sox offence drove in eight valuable runs to not only reverse the Orioles lead but also turn the result of the game in their favour.
"After getting a lot of guys on base and not being able to get the job done (Sunday), it felt good to come out tonight and score some runs," Reddick said.
After Derrek Lee drove in the two-run homer in the first inning against Tim Wakefield, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Dustin Pedroia and Adrian Gonzalez scored a single each in the third against Brad Bergesen to bring the Red Sox back in the game with a 3-2 score.
Boston's offence did not rest and turn into another active action in the fourth inning with the respective singles of Marco Scutaro and Jacoby Ellsbury in the fourth to take the Boston lead to 5-2 against a straining Bergesen.
Tim Wakefield pitched relatively stronger innings to maintain the Red Sox lead followed by Josh Reddick’s run in the fifth inning that took the lead to 6-2. However, the Orioles offence suddenly got activated in the fifth to add exciting flavour to the game.
Trailing behind by 6-2, the Orioles’ offence intensified the flow of runs. J. J Hardy drove in a two-run homer followed by Adam Jones one run that brought the score to 6-5. Nolan Reimold’s two-run RBI gave an ultimate 7-6 lead to the Orioles.
Kevin Youkilis levelled the score in the seventh inning following which, the eighth inning proved a game-decider with the exorbitantly expensive runs that the Red Sox scored against straining Mike Gonzalez.
Pedroia snapped in a two-run RBI followed by that of Kevin Youkilis and a single by Carl Crawford. Having already jumped to 12-7, the Red Sox were fairly safe in the game. But Darnell McDonald did some magic, as he hit a three-run homer to take the lead
to 15-7, effectively putting the Red Sox in charge of the game.
The Orioles tried their last attempt in the bottom of the eighth inning to make a come-back, but it was too little too late save them. J.J. Hardy got a single and Nick Markakis drove in a two-run homer for the Orioles in the eighth inning. However, Franklin
Morales pitched a shut-out ninth inning to give the Red Sox an emphatic 15-10 victory in the high-scoring game.
