Boston Red Sox defeat Miami Marlins 5-3 – MLB Spring Training
Boston Red Sox looked in absolutely terrific form on Monday, March 12 as they secured a comfortable 5-3 win over Miami Marlins at the JetBlue Park, Lee County Florida in their Grapefruit league of 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Sessions.
With six wins in eight games this spring, things are looking very bright for the Red Sox. If they can maintain this sensational form during the regular season, the Red Sox will have an excellent chance of making it to the World Series. Boston’s starters,
relievers and closers have shown great quality and depth in pitching department of the game.
The hitters have also absorbed the pressure brilliantly throughout the spring season. It will be interesting to see if the Red Sox can deliver the goods on consistent basis in later stages of this season. Red Sox’s manager Bobby Valentine was also very delighted
at the outcome of the game. In a post game interview, he aimed to give similar results in the upcoming games.
Asked if he'd ever been tossed from a spring training game, Valentine said: "I certainly hope not. Probably."
Marlins, on the other hand, will be looking to work out a different method to get things back on track. Manager Ozzie Guillen looked extremely frustrated during the contest. He was forced to leave the game after he disputed a foul ball.
"A little excitement, set the tone, protecting my players. That's it," Guillen later. “My first base coach told me the ball was fair. I got to believe him. We should be 3-3. That happens. Spring training for everyone."
"What's the difference between spring training and during the season? I do my job. The umpires have to do their job. The players have to do their jobs. My job is to protect the players. I don't see this game different than other games," he added.
Although Guillen is one of the most effective managers in Major League Baseball, he is known for his volatile behaviour on the field. First base umpire Tim Timmons asked Guillen to leave in the sixth inning after Terry Tiffe’s grounder down the line was
ruled foul by the umpire.
