Boston Red Sox defeat Minnesota Twins 9-7 – MLB Spring Training
Boston Red Sox defeated Minnesota Twins 9-7 at the Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers, Florida on Friday, March 30 in their Grapefruit League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
Red Sox’s starter Daniel Bard, who played as a reliever last season, has been performing the starter’s duties since the start of 2012 Spring Training. According to sources, Bard is very happy with his conversion from reliever to starter. Bard will be hoping
to continue his excellent form to lock up a spot on Boston’s pitching rotation.
In his final spring start, Bard displayed some high quality pitching skills, striking out seven batters and allowing just three runs in six solid innings to help his team secure a thrilling 9-7 win over the Twins. Bard faltered in the sixth inning in which
he gave up two runs. However, he was very pleased with his overall effort.
"There are still some decisions to be made, but I really feel like I've gotten better with each start," Bard said. "Throw the numbers aside, just how I'm throwing the ball. My comfort throwing out on the mound. That's my purpose, just to keep getting better."
Red Sox’s Manager Bobby Valentine also liked what he saw from Bard.
"Basically, he's where we hoped he would be and where he hoped he could be," Valentine said. "He wanted to come here and build and fill all those little nuances. I don't know that he figured them all out. You still have some growing pains and some learning
experience."
Cody Ross made a meaningful contribution with the bat as he hit a pair of two runs homer runs to lead his team to an impassable lead.
The Twins will be disappointed by the fact they were unable to cross the winning line in a game that was played on an extremely fighting note. With a decent 16-13 spring record, the Twins have given their fans plenty to cheer about this spring. It will be
interesting to see if the Twins can bounce back from a depressing defeat to end their spring campaign on high.
