Boston Red Sox defeat New York Yankees 11-6 for 2-0 lead in series - MLB Update
The Boston Red Sox crush the New York Yankees’ strong batting line-up for the second straight time with an 11-6 victory at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday, June 8.
The Red Sox captured the game for their side right from the first inning, as catcher Francisco Cervelli’s error allowed Adrian Gonzalez to score an RBI single. David Ortiz took the lead to 3-0 with a sizzling two-run homer off the Yankees’ starter Allen
Jones Burnett.
Following this, right-fielder David Jonathan Drew added an RBI single to create some more problems for the Yankees’ batting line-up. Trailing 4-0, the Yankees could not open their account in first three innings while on the other hand the Red Sox kept on
hitting.
In the fourth inning, the Red Sox blistered three more runs against Burnett to create a more aggravated position for the Yankees. Jason Varitek grounded into fielder’s choice to second base, scoring Ortiz and sending Carl Crawford to third base. Jacoby Ellsbury
then drove in to the deep right side of the ground, allowing Crawford to score before Dustin Pedroia scored a final run in the fourth inning.
The Yankees were trailing 7-0, when Alex Rodriguez splashed a one-run homer off Boston’s starter Tim Wakefield in the bottom of the fourth inning to reduce the lead by one run. The Yankees struck back in the fifth inning when Cervelli, Derek Jeter and Mark
Teixeira, who was hit on the right knee in last game by Lester, scored an RBI to reduce the lead to 4-7.
Boston’s Gonzalez did not let the Yankees stabilise with the bat as he piled another run to widen the lead to 8-4. However, after Wakefield handed the ball to Alfredo Aceves the Yankees’ Cervelli scored an RBI single on a line drive to left-field to reduce
it to 5-8.
After Burnett went for eighth run, the Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi replaced him with Boone Logan in the middle of the sixth inning. Logan acted as per the expectations of the manager and scattered just one hit, walked two and struck-out three batters over
one inning. The batters however failed to provide him a desired back up as they kept struggling against Aceves in the later phase of the game.
On the other hand, Boston’s bat kept on swinging with full speed as they launched three more runs after Logan handed over the responsibility to Lance Pendleton. Crawford launched a 388-feet long one-run homer while Drew blistered 386-feet two-run homer in
the top of the ninth inning to take the lead to 11-5.
Teixeira scored an RBI single but it could not prove helpful and the Yankees lost their 26th game with 11-6 score.
