Boston Red Sox defeat San Diego Padres 14-5 – MLB Update
The Boston Red Sox effortlessly beat the San Diego Padres 14-5 at Fenway Park, Boston on Monday, June 20.
The 10-run inning only included five hits that shattered all the hopes of Padres to even lose gracefully. The ever resurgent Red Sox have been playing better than any other team with 10 for no less than five times in the nine games they have played lately.
With a .277 batting average, the Red Sox are outshining any other team in the ongoing season. "I don't really know the stats," Dustin Pedroia said. "We're just out there playing. We're trying to win games.”
David Ortiz started the running campaign for the Red Sox in the first inning with his single to shallow left and drove in the second run in the third inning when Andrew Miller had confined the Padres’ offence.
Jacoby Ellsbury tripled the lead for the Red Sox in the fourth inning which was soon compensated by Orlando Hudson of the Padres who hit a shining three-run homer in the sixth inning to level the score.
Cory Luebke who was having good stats with allowing only three runs in the six innings he pitched proved utterly disastrous in the seventh. Gonzalez opened the floodgate of runs against the Padres with his single to deep left.
The 10-run seventh inning saw Marco Scutaro, Jason Varitek and Dustin Pedroia driving in singles, while Josh Reddick, Adrian Gonzalez and Kevin Youkilis scoring two-run homers to devastate the Padres’ offence.
Adrian Gonzalez, who was a former part of the Padres, drove in three runs in the enriching 10-run seventh inning to overwhelm the Padres.
"I had fun with it. I have fun out there every day," said Gonzalez. "It was good to see them before the game and catch up with them, but once the game started, it was all about playing the game."
"Some soft hits, walks and hit by pitches," Padres’ manager Bud Black said of the 10-run inning. "We just tried to stop the bleeding and couldn't." Having established an irreversible 13-3 lead, the Red Sox defence remained impregnable.
Michael Bowden pitched a strong eighth inning, allowing only a run to the Padres’ Chris Denorfia following whom Jacoby Ellsbury scored the 14th run for the Red Sox, having a firm lead on the game now against the Padres.
With the Padres undergoing a tough time, only Jesus Guzman was able to score a single in the ninth inning. Tommy Hottovy limited the other hitters of Padres to guide the Red Sox to an easy 14-5 win.
