Boston Red Sox defeat Tampa Bay Rays 5-0 – MLB Recap
Boston Red Sox defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 5-0 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, April 14 at Fenway Park in Boston.
The Red Sox played as one unit and thrashed the Rays with big force. Their pitchers and batters played brilliantly throughout the entire game and showed great resistance.
Starter Clay Buchholz pitched eight brilliant innings and allowed no run. Receiving two hits only, he struck out eleven Rays batters on his 0.41 ERA.
“He knows himself more as a pitcher, I think where that shows up is in those spots where he's got men on base, runners in scoring position. You don't see that emotional spike as evident as maybe his first year or so," said Red Sox manager John Farrell.
“I always tell people when they ask me about the no-hitter and everything, I tell them I've been trying to do it again since that day and it hasn't happened, That shows you how far luck goes with being able to go out there and throw a game like that," Buchholz
said.
Relief pitcher Andrew Miller also played well for the Red Sox. He pitched one inning and struck out one hitter on his 3.86 ERA.
Red Sox batters also did very well and played a solid role for their team’s win. Centre fielder Jacoby Ellsbury scored one run on his four at bats. He played well upfront and paved the ground for Red Sox’s offensive run.
Right fielder Shane Victorino also did his job with wonderful attacking batting. He scored one run on one hit and maintained his slugging percentage at .364. First baseman Mike Napoli ran for two RBIs and scored one run on his four at bats.
On the other hand, the Tampa Bay Rays entire roster did not show any offensive plays and lost the game bitterly in the end.
The Rays starter Alex Cobb disappointed with his pitching. He pitched 6.2 innings and allowed four runs and seven hits. He also allowed three earned runs.
Later the Rays closer Jamey Wright also could not show his natural game as he allowed one run and one hit on his 1.1 inning on 1.59 ERA.
