Boston Red Sox defeat Tampa Bay Rays 6-4 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox defeated Tampa Bay Rays 6-4 at the Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Sunday, April 15 in their regular season clash of the 2012 Major League Baseball.
Manager Valentine will be extremely satisfied with his efforts to bring David Ortiz to the team. The striker, who is on $14.575 million contract for this year, drove in the go ahead in his seventh straight hit to help the Boston edge past the Rays on Sunday
evening.
Ortiz has the ability to hit lefties out of the park. He batted .329 against the left handers past season suggesting why he had a successful time against Rays’ starter Matt Moore.
"Lefties are hittable, too. It all depends (on) what your mindset is," Ortiz said. "They throw the ball over the plate just like righties."
"I definitely wanted to let him know that the new guy really wanted him," said Valentine. "I think that's basically all I said, that I always appreciated watching him from afar and I know how important he is to any team. And I wanted him on mine."
The win will be of great importance for the Red Sox who had made a poor start to their regular season encounter. Detroit Tigers outclassed them in almost all aspects of the game in their first three games of the season, damaging their win-loss record to
3-0.
However, since then the Red Sox have shown great improvement in their game play. Securing a hard fought win on Sunday night, Bobby Valentine and company improved their win-loss record to 4-5. The Red Sox still need to improve on some areas of their game
to beat the likes of Detroit of Tigers and New York Yankees.
They have dominated the Rays since the start of the series, securing a comfortable 12-2 win in the opening game. The supremacy continued in the following game as well and the Red Sox took an impassable 2-0 lead with a 13-5 win against Tampa Bay.
It will be interesting to see if the Red Sox can continue their marvellous form throughout the season to reach the playoffs.
