Boston Red Sox dominate New York Yankees 8-3 – MLB Update
The Boston Red Sox batters crushed Carsten Charles Sabathia as the club devoured New York Yankees 8-3 in the third-straight game to earn a series sweep at Yankee Stadium on Thursday, June 9.
Despite going under 2-0 deficit in the first inning and remaining unable to open their account until the top of the seventh inning, the Red Sox did not lose hope and instead managed to open their bat in the seventh. Short-stop Jed Lowrie entered for third
at bat and opened the account with his line drive triple to the deep right-field against the Yankees’ starter CC Sabathia.
Afterwards, Mike Cameron touched a game-tying single and Jacoby Ellsbury drove in to the right for a leading run. Adrian Gonzalez then took this momentum and blistered a fast drive to centre-field for an RBI single before David Robertson replaced Sabathia.
However, this move did not work out for the Yankees as until now the Red Sox batting was completely awakened.
Robertson tossed one strike and one foul strike before Kevin Youkilis smashed a beautiful single to shallow left-field to gain a 5-2 lead. Robertson pitched another strike before giving away a decent RBI double to David Ortiz, who took the lead to 7-2.
After a scoreless eighth inning, Adrian Gonzalez touched another tremendous RBI single off Yankees’ closer Jeff Marquez to elevate the score 8-2. The Yankees’ Derek Jeter made a third run for his club on a ground out shot against the Red Sox closer Dan Wheeler.
Before allowing six runs in the seventh inning, Sabathia struck-out five batters and was hopeful to enter into the list of pitchers who have seven wins in this season. However, the inning ended his game on a fourth loss with 3.15 ERA in 14 starts.
"It's not how you wanted it to end tonight, it did and you've got to move on," Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi said.
The Red Sox’ starter Josh Beckett, after giving two early runs in the first innings, struck back impressively and completed his seven innings spell without allowing a further run.
"He feels good about himself, and he should," Boston’s manager Terry Francona said.
Matt Albers continued the same momentum set by the Beckett and threw scoreless eighth inning to cement the Red Sox sixth win in a row and seventh straight triumph over the Yankees.
