Boston Red Sox edge Kansas City Royals 4-3 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 4-3 in a thrilling encounter at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Friday, August 24 in the opening game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball.
David Ortiz played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash he singled to centre in the first inning to put his side on the board. Royals also showed great fighting abilities. Eric Hosmer homered to left and Alex Gordon doubled to left in the third
to help Kansas City come back from behind for a 3-2 lead.
Pedro Ciriaco added a double to left in the seventh to deliver the go ahead run, lifting the Red Sox to a much needed victory. Boston came together as a team and finally got their potent offence going against the Royals.
Red Sox starting pitcher Jon Lester grabbed his eighth win of the season after he gave up six hits and three runs in seven effective innings.
"We talked for a little bit," Ortiz said of Gonzalez. "He's shocked, like we are a little bit. Adrian wants to be here, that's why he came here, and help this ballclub to win a World Series."
“David was awesome," said Andrew Bailey. “You can't say enough about that guy. And for him to come off the DL and to be such a sparkplug in our offense, he was huge tonight."
The Red Sox, who were annihilated in their previous series against the Los Angeles Angels, used their home conditions brilliantly on Friday evening to restore some of their lost pride. The match was played on an extremely competitive note as both teams fought
for the supremacy. However, it was the Red Sox who came out on top to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
With their win, Bobby Valentine and company improved their record to 60-66 but it seems there chances of making it to the playoffs are almost over. It will be interesting to see if Boston can end the season on a bright note to cheer up the disappointed fans.
The Royals will be looking to put in a better performance against the Red Sox in the remainder of this exciting series.
