Boston Red Sox edge Texas Rangers 2-1 to level series – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox showed great determination and fighting skills as they edged the Texas Rangers 2-1 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas in second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Red Sox pitching rotation deserves a lot of credit for creating all sorts of problems for the best batting lineup in the American League. Clay Buchholz showed just what he is capable of as he pitched seven effective inning to lay the foundation of a Red
Sox victory.
Allowing just four hits and a run, he looked very comfortable on the mound. Relief pitcher Vicente Padilla was awarded with the win for striking-out twice in his only inning pitched. Alfredo Aceves pitched the perfect ninth for his 21st save of
the year.
Catcher Kelly Shoppach doubled to deep right in the fourth inning to put the Red Sox on the board. Mike Aviles drove in the tie breaking run in the bottom of the ninth and Daniel Nava scored to lift Boston to a much needed victory.
"We got some long-awaited walks," Valentine said. "They were two great at-bats by Nava and Salty. Then Mike has been hitting in bad luck, but he got a hit on 3-and-2 off the end of his bat. A couple of walks and a bloop, and we win."
"Four losses (in a row) was big," Nava said in a post game interview. "This was another win that we need."
Bobby Valentine and company made the most of available opportunities in a game that was extremely important for them. With their win against the Rangers on Tuesday, the Red Sox improved their record to.500 and it will be interesting to see if they can bring
some consistency in their game-play over the next couple of months to grab one of the two wild card spots.
Rangers, on the other hand, will be disappointed with their effort. After hammering the Red Sox 9-1 in series opener, Manager Ron Washington would have expected his team to put up another masterful performance but that did not turn out to be the case.
