Boston Red Sox fall one-short in 10-11 loss to Toronto Blue Jays – MLB Update
The Boston Red Sox were unlucky to lose 10-11 to the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday, September 7 after a late assault in the ninth inning brought them in touching distance of winning their second game of the four-game series at Rogers Centre in Toronto,
Ontario.
The Blue Jays now lead the series 2-1 with a fair chance of winning on Thursday, September 8. The Red Sox, on the contrary, will aim to win the last game to split the series and avoid embarrassment.
It was a run feast in Toronto where both teams produced runs at will. Boston got off to a flying start with a three-run first inning. Jacoby Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia and Adrian Gonzalez scored a run each to give the Red Sox an early advantage and set the
tone for the game. The home team, however, replied strongly with five runs over the first three innings to eradicate the three-run deficit and gain a two-run advantage over the American League East stalwarts. Eric Thames scored twice in this stretch and Brett
Lawrie improved his batting average to .324 when he scored off J.P. Arencibia’s home-run in the second inning. Lawrie’s slugging percentage is now .676, probably among the best in the Majors.
Red Sox have been vying hard to regain the top notch in the East and a four-run fourth inning followed by a mammoth David Ortiz homer in the fifth highlighted their desperation for this aim. Marco Scutaro impressed yet again with his role higher in the line-up
as he drove in three runs and scored another in his four at-bats to push his average to .285 for the season.
Brandon Morrow failed to produce a quality start for the Blue Jays as he was unglued for eight earned-runs in 4.1 innings by the grand Red Sox line-up. Morrow’s earned-run average soared to 5.12 after this horrendous display but he was lucky not to get a
decision, thanks to his team.
Blue Jays bundled five crucial-runs in the eighth inning to gain a three-run lead over the Red Sox and Frank Francisco then restricted the visitors to just two runs in the decider to see the Blue Jays through. Gonzalez’s home-run in the ninth did scare Toronto
for once but Francisco was lucky in the end.
