Boston Red Sox fall to New York Yankees 3-4 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox were beaten by the New York Yankees 3-4 at Yankee Stadium in New York on Tuesday, October 2 in the second game of their three match series.
Credit should be given to the Red Sox for putting up a brave fight on Tuesday evening but they were outclassed in finer details of the game. Yankees, their American League East Division rivals, used their resources very wisely to take an impassable 2-0 series
lead.
Manager Bobby Valentine will be very disappointed with the outcome of the game. However, he will be expecting his men to regroup and fight back in the finale to end the season on a winning note.
Boston’s starting pitcher Jon Lester pitch with great control and accuracy as he allowed just eight hits and one run in five solid innings.
Relief pitchers Rich Hill, Junichi Tazawa and Craig Breslow kept pressure on the Yankees, tossing up three scoreless innings but their effort was in vain as the Yankees came back from behind to clinch a thrilling victory.
Andrew Bailey allowed two runs and three hits to help New York level the score 3-3 in the ninth and closer Andrew Miller gave up the tie breaking single to Raul Ibanez in the 12th.
"We didn't start the season to finish fifth ... or fourth, or third, or second ...," manager Bobby Valentine said.
"Hopefully, he feels OK tomorrow if I need him," Girardi said. "I've said it all along and I'll say it again: trying to win the division."
"I must've thanked Ibanez 100 times," said Mark Teixeira. "Raul is my favorite player right now. I guarantee I'm the happiest guy on the team because it could not have gone worse for me personally, but we won."
Dustin Pedroia doubled to deep right centre in the first inning to put Red Sox on the board. Cody Ross hit a sacrifice fly to centre in the first to double the lead 2-0. First baseman James Loney also displayed some top quality hitting skills to restore
Red Sox’s two run lead but the Yankees were too hot to handle at their home ballpark.
