Boston Red Sox fall to Tampa Bay Rays 2-4 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox were beaten by the Tampa Bay Rays 2-4 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Wednesday, September 26 in the finale of their two match series.
Both teams displayed some top quality baseball skills in a game that was played on a very competitive note. Rays did not show any sign of nerves under pressure to prevail as they extended their winning streak to seven games. Credit should be given to the
Manager Joe Maddon who has kept his players focused even in the most difficult times this season.
Rays seven game winning streak has given them a great chance to make it to the playoffs. It will be interesting to see if Maddon and company can live up to the expectations in their remaining games.
Red Sox, on the other hand, had another disappointing outing as they took their second straight loss. Despite having some of the finest hitting and pitching talent in their squad, the Red Sox have struggled to give consistent results this season.
"When you don't accomplish what you set out to do, you don't feel like you've done a good job. Simple," Bobby Valentine said in a post game interview. "When I come back next year, I'll think I'm prepared to handle it. Hopefully, we'll have better results.
We've got a lot saved up for next year."
"Not much I would have done differently, I don't think, other than I think would have kept the beer in the clubhouse. I think I could have used one after a few of those games," he further added.
Bobby Valentine and his men will be facing Baltimore Orioles in their next series. Surely, they will be looking to end the season on a positive note.
Starting pitcher Jon Lester had a forgettable time on the mound as he gave up three runs on four hits to take his 14th loss of the season.
Relief pitchers Clayton Mortensen, Rich Hill, Mark Melancon and Craig Breslow combined to give just one run in three innings but Tampa Bay were too hot to handle on Wednesday as they held on to their two run lead to complete a deserving series sweep.
