Boston Red Sox fumble again as Toronto Blue Jays win 7-6 – MLB Update
The Boston Red Sox lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 7-6 on April 15 at Fenway Park in Boston. The Red Sox battled nervously trying to escape another loss as the Blue Jays bounced back in the game to come up with an impressive victory.
On the other hand, as if another highly paid player could break the circle of misfortune troubling the team, the Red Sox signed another exorbitant deal. This time with Adrian Gonzalez, who agreed to a 154-million-dollar deal for seven years at a time when
nothing seems to be going the Red Sox way.
If records are anything to go by, Blue Jays have rallied resiliently throughout this series. Out of 13 matches that they have played so far, they have won 7 and lost 6. Important to mention is the fact that they were initially struggling like any other side
in this season. However, they have made a tremendous comeback in five of the matches that they seemed to have lost. The Red Sox, oppositely, have simply remained below par. The most heavily invested of teams in baseball history has so far lost 10 out of 12
matches, a record that could not be worse for a team of this calibre.
Friday’s game which was played in Boston was, in the strict sense of word, sensational. Boston could only blame ill-luck for their defeat if they believed in superstition. That would be utterly unjustifiable, though. The fact is that the Blue Jays strategised
their game flawlessly and put some solid effort to snatch the victory at the very last moment. The game was initially one dimensional partly because Boston seemed to have the upper hand leading 3-1 until the sixth inning. The seventh inning, however, completely
transformed the picture of the game as the Blue Jays bounced back in amazing fashion. The Red Sox did try their best to stage a last moment comeback, but they were stymied in the last inning despite scoring three in the eighth inning.
When the game began, it was Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis who made it 3-0 in the third inning. Brett Cecil who had come to pitch for the Blue Jays was in effect hardly able to stop the two. However, in the fifth inning, Corey Patterson’s two-run double
brought the lead down to 3-2. The score was leveled when Travis Snider scored an RBI double in the sixth. The seventh inning proved eventful for Toronto. Jose Bautista struck Bobby Jenks, singling to left where Jayson Nix scored. Adam Lind then singled to
centre where Yunel Escobar scored and Aaron Hill got a hit, enabling Bautista and Lind to pull off a double. The Blue Jays were commanding the game 7-3.
Jed Lowrie and Marco Scutaro put in a brilliant effort in the eighth inning to offset what the Blue Jays had achieved. However, their efforts did not produce the expected result, only that the Red Sox managed to bring it exhilaratingly close to 7-6. The
ninth inning remained in complete grip of Jon Rauch who came to pitch for Toronto. He made it a shut-out inning, not allowing any hit and effectively reducing the Red Sox to 7-6. The shut-out inning entitled the Blue Jays to their 7-6 victory, leaving the
Red Sox clueless as to what was afflicting them so viciously.
While the Red Sox are struggling hard, Adrian Gonzalez, on the other hand was extremely satisfied with the 154-million-dollar deal. In what betrayed nothing but confidence and willingness to do something worthwhile for a struggling team, Gonzalez said, “I'm
a person that for the most part, I want to be in a place where I'm comfortable, where I want to be," Gonzalez said during a news conference at Fenway Park. "This was a place that was a perfect fit for me as well. It's a place where I'm going to have a lot
of fun. I'm going to really enjoy playing here."
It will be interesting to see how the Red Sox manage to bounce back in the season, as their roster is filled to the brim with extremely talented players.
