Boston Red Sox hammer Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 – MLB Recap
Boston Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Saturday, September 15 at Rogers Centre in Toronto.
Red Sox’s pitchers played wonderfully and earned a great victory for their team. Starter Clay Buchholz started the game for the Red Sox and provided a good platform which eventually gave the team something to work with.
Relief pitcher Craig Breslow also performed well as he pitched just one inning and did not allow any run or hit. He remained calm on the mound and maintained his ERA at 3.52. He struck-out one Blue Jays’ batter and did not give any extra loop-holes in the entire game.
Closer Andrew Bailey pitched the last inning and did not allow any run. He received one hit and struck-out two on his 3.38 ERA.
"Those younger guys are definitely learning some great experiences great things going into next year that will help us out in whatever role they play," Bailey said.
Later manager Bobby Valentine said, "His at-bats are as good as anyone on the team, Everyone knows he can hit a fastball he hits a 2-1 breaking ball. He's a good player, I wish I had him all year, He's pitching with confidence. He's not afraid to challenge a hitter."
Along with pitchers, the Red Sox batters also played well and contributed a lot in their team’s victory.
“It's a good sign we're not laying down and dying, We're continuing to fight even though we're as far out as we are. It shows a lot about this team," said catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
Right fielder Cody Ross scored two runs and smashed a hit on his three at-bats while he also maintained his slugging percentage at .508.
On the other hand, the Blue Jays' starter Carlos Villanueva certainly played poorly and gave too many loop-holes in his seven innings spell.
He received two runs and four hits along with a homer. He struck-out six but his ERA rose to 3.42.
Relief pitcher Steve Delabar pitched 1.1 and received one run and two hits. He struck-out two while his ERA rose to 3.58.
