Boston Red Sox humble Kansas City Royals 11-5 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox humbled Kansas City Royals 11-5 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Monday, May 7 in the opener of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Adrian Gonzalez, Dustin Pedroia and David Ortiz displayed some top quality batting skills to put the Red Sox 4-0 ahead in the first inning. Both Pedroia and Ortiz homered and Cody Ross doubled to deep centre in the eighth to seal an emphatic win for their team. Starting pitcher Felix Doubront allowed five runs in just over 6 innings.
"I always feel the same out there," Jonathan Sanchez said after leaking six runs in three plus innings. "I go out there and give my 100 percent. Sometimes it goes your way and sometimes it doesn't."
"What happened today, I didn't think I got hit pretty well," he added. "I made a good pitch to the guy who hit the three-run home run. When he hit it, he didn't know where it was. He got lucky. After that, the home run Ortiz hit, and that was it. I pretty much made good pitches."
The Red Sox will be very pleased to improve their record to 12-16. Bobby Valentine and company have not been able to live to their immense potential since the start of the season. Boston’s fans were expecting their team to perform consistently but that has not turned out to be the case so far.
With so many games till to be played, the Red Sox will be looking to work hard on weaker areas of their game play to bounce back strongly. It will be interesting to see if the Red Sox can sweep the struggling Kansas City to up their confidence levels.
The Royals, on the other hand, faced another humiliating defeat in front of their home crowd. With just two wins in their 15 home games this season, the Royals have not been able to find ways to win games at Kauffman Stadium.
But Interim Manager Terry Ryan believes that his side is capable of accomplishing bigger things. Kansas City is now 9-19 and the team will be hoping for a miracle to win back their fans’ hearts.
