Boston Red Sox humiliate Milwaukee Brewers 12-3 – MLB Update
The Boston Red Sox comprehensively defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 12-3 on Sunday, June 19 at Fenway Park to win the three-game series by 2-1.
The packed crowd witnessed a sensational encounter punctuated by big hits and equally magnificent defensive play put up by the Red Sox.
Tim Wakefield virtually incapacitated the Brewers’ offence and Kevin Youkilis hit a three-run homer to make an invaluable contribution in the game and series win for the Red Sox. Wakefield was able to hold the Milwaukee hitters to only three hits.
Wakefield started cracking the Brewers’ offence from the very first inning, making it beyond repair as the Boston hitters opened their bats against an intimidated Yovani Gallardo.
The Milwaukee starter was first subject to a hit by Adrian Gonzalez who scored the first run by Gallardo’s error. Before Gallardo could settle, Kevin Youkilis hit a majestic three-run homer, which was the biggest highlight of the game.
Youkilis’ hit took the lead to 4-0 in the very first inning followed by Jacoby Ellsbury’s two-run homer, making things difficult for the Brewers. Nyjer Morgan of the Brewers had a homer in the second inning to bring the lead down to 6-2.
However, the Red Sox offence was far from being satiated with the score. Dustin Pedroia homered to centre to take the lead to 7-2 in the fourth inning and David Ortiz got another single in the same inning to build up more pressure on the Brewers with a 8-2
lead.
Pedroia’s single made it 9-2 in the fifth inning, as Wakefield remained beyond play as the Brewers' offence strained helplessly. Marco Scutaro homered to left to have a safe 11-2 lead by the end of sixth inning.
Prince Fielder got a single in the top of the seventh inning to bring the lead down to 11-3. But that was too little too late given the dominance of the Red Sox on the game. If anything, the Brewers’ pitchers were under huge pressure to perform.
When Mark DiFelice came in the seventh inning to pitch for the Brewers, Adrian Gonzalez hit the game’s second and team’s 12th run by singling to right, bringing the Red Sox in complete grip of the game.
Wakefield threw a scoreless eighth inning and Dan Wheeler pitched an unplayable ninth inning to seal Boston’ 12-3 victory and the 2-1 series win. The Red Sox completely dominated and managed to humiliate the Brewers. Boston showed off their powerful offence
during the one sided game. The Brewers were inconsistent throughout the game and were unable to get their offence going in the right direction. Only time will tell if the Brewers are able to recover from this massive defeat and get back to their winning ways.
