Boston Red Sox humiliate New York Yankees 9-5 in Game 3 – MLB Update

Boston Red Sox overcame New York Yankees 9-5 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Saturday, July 7 in third game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The Yankees had emerged victorious in both the first two games of the series and considering their recent form, they were the favourites for Saturday's game. Credit should be given to the Red Sox for putting up a brilliant fight under immense pressure.
Manager Bobby Valentine got his tactics absolutely right this time as they Red Sox held off the Yankee to keep the series alive. Right now, the Red Sox are just one game over the .500 win percentage mark and it will be interesting to see if they can beat
their arch rivals in the finale to end the first half of 2012 season on a winning note.
"I can guarantee you most people in the ballpark weren't carrying his baseball card with them," Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said, "but he had a super performance."
"I believe in him as a hitter," Valentine said. "He can use the whole field and hit a lot of different pitches."
"You can't give a good team extra outs and they capitalized on the extra outs," Derek Jeter said.
After New York had taken an early 3-0 lead, Daniel Nava put up a fine hitting performance to bring his side back into the contest. Ryan Sweeney tripled to deep centre in the seventh to add spice to the proceedings but the star of the show was Pedro Ciriaco
who finished the game with four hits and four RBI's to lead his team to a much needed victory.
"It's amazing. It's a good feeling," Ciriaco said of hearing those chants as he came to the plate in the seventh inning. "I was very surprised, but it's fun."
The shortstop doubled to shallow left and scored on a throwing error in the seventh to give the Red Sox in impassable 9-4 lead. Starting pitcher Felix Doubront picked up his ninth win of the season as he gave up just four hits and four runs in six plus solid
innings.
