Boston Red Sox defeat the Cleveland Indians 14-2 – MLB Update
The Boston Red Sox mercilessly charged the Cleveland Indian’s pitchers to win an emphatic 14-2 victory at Progessive Field, Cleveland on Wednesday, 25 May.
While Boston’s offence was in the driving seat, the defence was no less impressive. Jon Lester made life tough for Cleveland’s hitters with his pitching magic. So amazing was Lester’s performance that even the Indians’ manager could not help acknowledging
it.
Carl Crawford put on display what he is famously known for: Big hits. Earning two doubles for himself with three runs and two RBIs, his exploit washed Cleveland Indians’ hopes to even lose gracefully, let alone competing to win.
Crawford was visibly satisfied with his feat and said, "I definitely feel better than I did before. It feels nice to contribute to a game where everyone contributes." Crawford’s performance was reassuring largely because he, like his team, struggled to show
his efficacy.
"It was an uphill battle from the get-go," Indians manager Manny Acta said. "It's not a very good feeling before you get to the plate and you're trailing 7-0 against Jon Lester. I don't think even the '27 Yankees would have a good feeling trailing 7-0 against
this guy."
After initially losing the major chunk of their games, Boston has now won 10 out of the last 12 games they have played. On Wednesday when the game began, Boston opened the floodgate of runs against Mitch Talbot who came out pitching for Cleveland. Dustin
Pedroia effortlessly got a two-run homer following Carl Crawford as he showed his magic.
Crawford singled left centre to triple the lead and Jarrod Saltalamacchia took up the lead 4-0. As if every hitter of Boston had decided to contribute something valuable on Wednesday, Mike Cameron hit a sacrifice fly to earn the fifth run for Boston. Drew
Sutton made it 6-0 by singling to centre and Dustin Pedroia singled to left, amassing the seventh run for Boston.
Adrian Gonzalez made it 8-0 in the third inning as Talbot replaced Lester. But more surprises were to come Cleveland’s way.
David Ortiz got a two-run homer to make it 10-0 in the sixth inning following which Jarrod Saltalamacchia struck a three-run homer, making it an irreversible 13-0 lead for the Red Sox. The sixth inning brought Boston’s 14th run when Jacoby Ellsbury
doubled to deep left centre to turn things upside down for the Indians.
Lester limited the Indians’ hitter, and when Franklin Morales replaced him, Shelley Duncan hit the only two-run homer of Indians in the eighth inning. Scott Atchison, however, pitched a shutout inning to win the game for Boston 14-2.
