Boston Red Sox humiliated by Chicago Cubs 0-3 at Wrigley Field – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox were crushed by Chicago Cubs 0-3 at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois on Friday, June 15 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Manager Bobby Valentine has some serious thinking to do ahead of Boston’s next games against the Chicago Cubs. There is no denying the fact the Red Sox have some of the best hitting talent in their offensive lineup. However, for some uncanny reason, they
have not been able to get the best of their hitters this season.
It seems some players lack self confidence which is also keeping the Red Sox below the .500 win percentage mark. It will be interesting to see if they can handle their nerves better on Saturday to level the series 1-1.
The Cubs, who were outclassed in two out their three games against Detroit Tigers, complete advantage of Boston’s unforced errors on the field to build up some much needed confidence.
Considering their poor 22-42 record, it may not possible for the Cubs to make it to the playoffs this season but they can certainly make themselves proud by getting over the .500 win percentage hurdle.
"I thought Dustin was gonna get him," Valentine said. "I'll take my chances any time, even though you'd rather not be down three in the ninth any time, but that's the guy to break him, the ball just hit off the end of the bat."
Ryan Dempster put up fine pitching performance, extending his scoreless innings streak to 22. His dominant effort also lowered his ERA to 2.11 with an improved 3-3 record.
"I'm not naive," Dempster said. "I'm not oblivious to what's going on."
"If I focus on that, I wouldn't be doing a very good job as a teammate, and I wouldn't be doing a very good job for myself if I wasn't focusing on what I need to do," Dempster said.
Steve Clevenger earned an RBI double to left in the first inning to put the Cubs 2-0 ahead. David DeJesus scored the third run in the second inning to make the score 3-0.
