Boston Red Sox humiliated by Los Angeles Angels 3-7 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox were beaten by the Los Angeles Angels 3-7 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Wednesday, August 22 in second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Red Sox’s starting pitcher Clay Buchholz paid the ultimate price for his errors on the mound as he gave up season high 12 hits and seven runs in just over five innings to take his fourth loss of the season. He will be very disappointed with his effort after
doing all the hard work to prepare for the game.
Relief pitcher Junichi Tazawa was also hit hard, allowing three hits in just over two innings of relief.
Angels, on the other hand, put up a fine pitching performance. The rotation worked brilliantly with their resources to create all sort of problems for Boston’s struggling batting line-up.
Angels’ starter Jered Weaver in particular displayed some top quality throwing skills for his 16th win of the season. Overall, he gave up just two runs and two hits in seven solid innings.
"When you come into this place, you never know what's going to happen," he said. "I haven't had much success here. ... It was nice to mix in a win and get us back on track."
"I slipped a little bit," the gangly 6ft 7in Weaver said, smiling as he recalled the moment. "It's bound to happen with all the body limbs flying around."
Showing great courage and aggression, the Angles scored twice in the third inning to break the deadlock and put the Red Sox under immense pressure. Mark Trumbo kept the Red Sox on the defensive with an RBI single to centre.
Howard Kendrick hit a mighty home-run to centre in the sixth to help Angels establish complete control over the contest.
"I didn't know we did all that," Kendrick said. "I think it's huge to have a different part of the lineup put up those kinds of numbers."
For the Red Sox, Ryan Lavarnway, Mike Aviles and Cody Ross drove in crucial runs but their effort could not take Boston past the Angels.
