Boston Red Sox humiliated by New York Yankees 2-10 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox were annihilated by the New York Yankees 2-10 at Yankee Stadium in New York on Monday, October 1 in the opening game of their three match series.
Red Sox continued their forgettable losing streak as they took an embarrassing loss against the American League East leaders. Starting pitcher Clay Buchholz paid the ultimate price for his errors on the mound as he gave up six hits and eight runs in just
over one inning to take his eighth loss of the season.
Buchholz will be extremely disappointed with his effort and it will be interesting to see if he can find winning ways on his next appearance. Relief pitcher Alfredo Aceves was also unable to stop the flow of runs, allowing three hits and a run in just two
plus innings. Closer Andrew Bailey gave up two hits in the eighth.
"You play the cards that you have," Valentine said in a post game interview. "That's all we have right now."
"There's a lot of teams that would love to be in our position right now," Teixeira said after the Yankees humiliated the Red Sox to stay at the top of AL East standings table. "You can count all of the things that have gone wrong but, hey, we're right here
where we want to be. And if we keep winning, we'll be division champions and have a chance to make a run in the playoffs."
Yankees made the most of scoring opportunities early on. Robinson Cano, Curtis Granderson, Russell Martin and Mark Teixeira smacked home-runs as Yankees took a 9-0 lead in the second inning.
For the Red Sox, Daniel Nava homered to right centre in the fourth inning to put his side on the board. Catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia also made his presence felt with a sacrifice fly hit to centre in the seventh but the Red Sox never looked like getting
close to the target the Yankees had set for them.
Manager Bobby Valentine will be expecting his men to regroup and fight back in Game 2 to give the fans something to cheer about in these closing stages of the season.
