Boston Red Sox humiliated by Oakland Athletics 2-20 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox were humiliated by the Oakland Athletics 2-20 at O.co Coliseum in Oakland, California on Friday, August 31 in the opening game of their three match series.
Athletics’ offensive outburst gave the Red Sox a run for their money on Friday. Manager Bobby Valentine will be surely looking for a place to hide his face these days. The running season has proved to be a huge disappointment for the Red Sox. Their pitching
rotation in particular has failed miserably.
"It's fun, everybody's running to the bat rack ready to bat," Reddick said. "You can't wait to get in the batter's box."
"It wasn't any fun for anyone, that's for sure, except for the guys on the other side," Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said.
Josh Donaldson, Brandon Moss, George Kottaras and Josh Reddick hit home-runs as the A’s stacked up a huge total on the board. For the Red Sox, catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia homered to right in the fourth and Mauro Gomez earned an RBI single in the seventh.
"I don't know that I can ask for much more than 20 runs," A's manager Bob Melvin said.
"Nothing to talk about. The score was 20-2!" second baseman Dustin Pedroia said.
Red Sox starting pitcher Aaron Cook was hit hard as he gave up seven hits and six runs in just over two innings to take his eighth loss of the season.
Without a shadow of a doubt, Valentine is capable of getting the best of the players but for some bizarre reason, the Red Sox have struggled to execute their game plan this season.
Athletics dominated them in all departments of the game. The offence made the most of available opportunities to put Boston under immense pressure right from the start of the contest. If the A’s can continue their impressive winning run in the final quarter
of the season, surely they will make it to the playoffs.
Red Sox, on the other hand, will be looking to make adjustments to come back into the series. Valentine will be expecting the pitching rotation to learn from their mistakes to avoid another hammering.
