Boston Red Sox humiliated by Toronto Blue Jays 0-5 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox were humiliated by the Toronto Blue Jays 0-5 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Sunday, September 16 in the finale of their three match series.
Red Sox edged past the Blue Jays 8-5 in series opener and they continued to play aggressively in Game 2 to take a decisive 2-0 series lead. Having the momentum on their side, Bobby Valentine and his men had an excellent chance to wrap up an impressive series
sweep to cheer up their fans but that did not turn out to be the case.
The batting line up failed miserably as the Red Sox failed to post a single run on the board. Jon Lester had everything under control until the seventh inning when he leaked three runs. Overall, he gave up four hits and three runs in seven solid innings
while striking out seven batters.
"I've got to keep looking at those positives and just keep plugging away," Lester said. "Just keep working those things and try to pitch as many innings as I can every time I take the ball."
"Not even in my wildest dreams was I going to think that you can bring the name of Babe Ruth next to mine," Vizquel said.
Relief pitcher Daniel Bard was also unable to control the flow of runs, allowing two runs and two hits in a short period of time.
Blue Jays’ starter Brandon Morrow used the conditions brilliantly, tossing up six scoreless innings to lay the foundations of a superb victory. However, it was the relief pitcher Brandon Lyon who grabbed his third win of the season.
"As we've seen many times before, when Rajai gets on the bases he can make a lot of things happen," Farrell said of Rajai Davis.
"I'd be crazy not to," Farrell said. "For him to tie if possible in New York will be very fitting."
Omar Vizquel provided the Red Sox with an excellent start as he singled to shallow centre in the seventh inning to break the deadlock. Adeiny Hechavarria’s home run to left in the seventh stretched Blue Jays’ lead to 3-0. Colby Rasmus and Moises Sierra made
valuable contributions to keep the Red Sox on the defensive.
