Boston Red Sox likely to call Carlos Beltran – MLB News
Boston Red Sox are making changes as the club is looking for a manager as well as a good combination of players. To assemble the best, who can run for a long time without repeating the September-disaster, the club has made significant moves.
Newly acquired General Manager Ben Cherington despite having a tough task on his hands, set off to a good star. He has made some good moves like holding short-stop Marco Scutaro and interviewing shortlisted candidates to fill the vacant managerial position.
On Wednesday, as the club set free of the five-year, $70 million contract with right-fielder J. D. Drew and the club is looking with a hawk’s eye in Major League Baseball to fill the empty spot. With the Red Sox starting their search, the experts pointed
out Carlos Beltran as a possible candidate of the position. Carlos, who was a part of the San Francisco Giants, became a free agent with the end of the 2011 season.
Although the sources reported that the Red Sox have discussed the possibility of Carlos in the front office, but the club is still looking for someone cheaper to join with either Ryan Kalish or Josh Reddick. However, another source acquainted with the office
commented on his Twitter account on Tuesday that the Red Sox are interested in acquiring Beltran.
San Francisco Giants hired the right-hand Beltran in an exchange for pitching prospect Zack Wheeler in a July trade. As Beltran was in a five-year $119 million contract with the New York Mets, the club also gave $4 million cash to the Giants to compensate
his remaining $6.5 million for the 2011 season.
Beltran started his MLB career in 1998 and in his 13-year career, the 34-year-old played for four different clubs, including Kansas City Royals, Houston Astros, New York Mets and San Francisco Giants. After making his debut in MLB for the Royals, Beltran
spent seven years with the American League Central franchise before moving to the Astros in 2004.
In his entire career, he managed to retain most of his batting average to .283 and launched 302 home-runs. However, his best years were with the Royals when he hit .302 with 22 home-runs and 84 RBIs in 142 games.
Red Sox went 7-20 in the month of September as many baseball writers associate this performance as the September-disaster.
