Boston Red Sox looking to gain momentum – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox have been struggling to say the least since the start of 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. Their poor 6-10 win-loss record suggests that they have not been able to execute their game plan successfully.
However, the way Boston conducted themselves in second game of their three match series with Minnesota Twins is a clear indication that they are getting back to their old self.
In a game that was played at the Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the Red Sox made the most of available opportunities to win by 11-2 and take a decisive 2-0 lead in the series.
David Ortiz once again showed his value as he homered into the right field stands with three RBI’s to set up an easy win for his team. Josh Beckett put up a fine show as he struck out five batters and allowed just two runs over six innings pitched.
"Sometimes I think you can waste too much energy with that stuff," Beckett said of pitching with emotion. "Today apparently it helped our guys though because they scored 11 runs."
"I didn't learn how to hit yesterday," Ortiz said with a smile. "I've been doing this for years. Just taking what they give you."
"Our starters have to do a better job of getting deeper into the games, and we've got to get the ball out of those bullpen guys' hands or they're all not going to make it through this year," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said.
The biggest problem for the Red Sox this season has been their inability to play aggressively in front their own home crowd. They have won only three out eight games in Boston.
Without a shadow of a doubt, Boston has the capacity and skills to surprise even the best in the business. For them, it is question of putting the pieces of the puzzle together.
If the Red Sox can learn to play their natural game under pressure, they can become a dangerous unit in the American League. It will be interesting to see if the Red Sox can gain some sort of winning momentum from their series against Minnesota to change
the course of their destiny.
