Boston Red Sox lose in a thriller 3-4 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox lost to Kansas City Royals 3-4 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Wednesday, May 9 in the decisive finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
For the Royals, Bruce Chen had his first win in a while as he allowed three runs and seven hits in just over 6 innings.
"That's the first time in a long time I felt like we were firing on all cylinders, facing a guy that's been extremely tough on us," Royals manager Ned Yost said.
"Clutch hitting, clutch pitching. I thought Bruce threw a tremendous game. They had seven hits and five were off the end of the bat or jam shots that just found holes or hit the line. And to get four runs off Jon Lester was huge. It was good to finally beat him. He's a guy who has handled us for a long time," he added.
Red Sox will be definitely hurt by their series loss at the hands of the Royals, who had the poorest record in American League this season.
After Bobby Valentine and his men secured a thumping 11-5 win in the opening game, it seemed the Royals will go down like nine pins once more but Ned and company showed great determination and fighting spirit in the second game to pull off an upset win.
Finding ways to win even under pressure, the Royals showed great character on Wednesday evening to secure an important series win. Above all, they will be feeling confident about themselves and their self belief will be sky-high as well now. With just 11 wins in 30 games this season, Kansas City still have a lot to prove. Of course the season has just begun and the Royals will have number of opportunities to improve their record to make it to the playoffs.
Boston, on the other hand, will have to do some serious thinking to resolve their issues. The offence has failed miserably since the start of the season and it will be interesting to see if the Red Sox can learn the lessons in their upcoming games. It will be exciting to see if they can change the course of their destiny.
