Boston Red Sox lose to Baltimore Orioles 3-5 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox lost to the Baltimore Orioles 3-5 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Wednesday, August 15 in second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
After making a strong start to the contest, the Red Sox had an excellent chance to level series but lack of concentration made them pay the ultimate price.
Jacoby Ellsbury put his side on the board with an RBI groundout to deep right-centre. Carl Crawford also drove in crucial runs but the Orioles were the more determined of two teams.
"When you get the ground ball you have to cash in there," said Boston manager Bobby Valentine, who was ejected in the eighth inning. "We're in the dugout if he makes the play."
Red Sox starter Aaron Cook had a horrible time on the mound as he took his sixth loss of the season. After tossing five scoreless innings, he gave up five runs in the sixth that allowed Baltimore to take complete control of the situation.
"He started to get it up," Baltimore's Adam Jones said of Aaron Cook. "You start to see somebody three times, you get him."
"It's a play I've made a 100 times," Cook said in a post game interview. "I just didn't get my feet set. We lost because I made an error."
After getting a beating in series opener, the Red were hoping to turn the tables on their opponents on Wednesday but that did not turn out to be the case as they took another disappointing loss.
The Red Sox are clearly struggling to find their best hitting and pitching combinations after the All Star Break. Manager Bobby Valentine should take some of the blame. Although the Red Sox have lost the series, they will be looking to put up a competitive
show in the finale to salvage some of their lost pride.
Orioles, on the other hand, have used their home conditions superbly this series. They will be looking to get the better of their American League East Division rivals in Game 3 as well to complete an impressive sweep.
