Boston Red Sox lose to Baltimore Orioles 4-6 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox were outplayed by Baltimore Orioles 4-6 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Friday, May 4 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Boston will be disappointed to lose the game after doing all the hard work. Bobby Valentine and his men took 1-0 lead in the second inning through Cody Ross’s wonderful effort. McDonald, David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia and Adrian Gonzalez displayed some high
quality batting skills to keep their team in the game but the Orioles had answers to everything.
Matt Wieters and Wilson Betemit, once more, rose to the occasion as they helped the Orioles tie the score 3-3 in the fourth. Chris Davis stunned the crowd when he singled to right in the 13th to give a 5-4 lead to his team. Reynolds’s sacrifice
fly in the same inning sealed an emphatic win for Baltimore. Boston, now, will have to exploit their home conditions perfectly in the next game to level the series.
"Everyone wants to play well at home, but we haven't. We've got to figure out how to do that," said Dustin Pedroia. "We just couldn't find a way to score a run there when we needed to. It's tough."
"That's first and second with no outs. I would say that was a very big play in the game," Boston manager Bobby Valentine said. "That looked like it was by him when he caught it, David was kind of holding up."
The Orioles continued to dominate the American League as they secured a thrilling victory to start the series on a winning note. Buck Showalter and company made the most of on hand opportunities in a game that was played on an extremely competitive note.
Showing the depth and quality in their offence and bullpen, the Orioles scored twice in the 13th inning to break the deadlock.
Baltimore has not won the World Series title since 1983. Their win against Boston was their 17th of the season and they have lost on only nine occasions. If the Orioles can give similar performances throughout the season, they will be very hard
to beat.
