Boston Red Sox lose to Baltimore Orioles 6-8 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox lost to Baltimore Orioles 6-8 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Tuesday, June 5 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia looked extremely disappointed at the end of the game as the Red Sox lost to Baltimore despite his heroics. The right hander brought his team back into the game from nowhere with a mighty home run in the bottom of the ninth. However, the Red Sox were unable to take advantage of the situation and the Orioles scored twice in the tenth to seal an emphatic victory.
With their win against the Red Sox, Baltimore improved their record to 31-24, which also kept them at the top of American League East Division standings. Boston, who have shown great improvement in their game play over the last couple of weeks, will be hoping to learn their lesson to turn things around in second game of this series.
"J.J.'s picked us up so many times this year and for the guys to come in and pick him up, that was nice,” said Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter.
"We've had a lot of good ones, in this environment and a chance to roll over a couple of times," he further added. "It doesn't surprise me at all, but it's good to see."
"We all threw well. It just wasn't our night from that end of it," Atchison said. "It seemed like when a runner got in scoring position, they found a hole. They hit a ball in the right spot. Those things are going to happen."
Orioles’ reliever Jim Johnson will be a very relieved man considering the fact he blew away a two run lead in the bottom of the ninth. The pitcher was just one strike away from his 18th save of the season before Saltalamacchia homered to ruin his party.
Baltimore, who have an impressive 4-0 record at Fenway Park this season, will be looking to continue their dominance against their American League rivals to secure anther series sweep. Scott Podsednik, Dustin Pedroia and Mike Aviles drove in crucial runs for the Red Sox.
