Boston Red Sox lose to Los Angeles Angels 2-5 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox took another humiliating beating as they lost to the Los Angeles Angels 2-5 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California on Thursday, August 30 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Starting pitcher Jon Lester looked a bit out of sorts as he gave up nine hits and five runs in eight innings to take his 11th loss of the season. Lester will be hoping for a better result on his next appearance. Angels’ starter Zack Greinke allowed
just two runs on five hits in seven solid innings for his third win of the season.
"I was doing so bad, I figured I couldn't do any worse," the 2009 American League Cy Young Award winner Greinke said. "The main thing (now) is I'm not worried about messing up. ... Better location, I guess that's the main thing. I'm not leaving my mistakes
over the middle of the plate."
For the Red Sox, Mike Aviles hit a sacrifice fly and James Loney smacked a home-run to right in the sixth.
"That's probably one of the best lineups in the American League, just because they can do everything," Lester said of the Angels. "It's pretty impressive to see them run around the bases."
"That eighth inning, we had two line drives with guys on base and couldn't find a gap," Valentine said.
Angels edged the Red Sox 6-5 in the series opener and they secured a comfortable 10-3 win in Game 2. With momentum on their side, the Angels continued to put pressure on the Red Sox in the finale to earn a hard fought victory, completing a deserving series
sweep.
Red Sox’s manager Bobby Valentine will be extremely disappointed with his team’s performance after the All Star Break. It seems the Red Sox are short of confidence.
They have some of the best hitters and pitchers in their roster but unfortunately they have not lived up to expectations. It will be interesting to see if the Red Sox can learn some lessons from the mistakes they have made this year to turn things around
next season.
