Boston Red Sox lose to Los Angeles Angels 5-6 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox lost to the Los Angeles Angels in a thrilling encounter at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Starting pitcher Clay Buchholz looked a bit out of sorts as he gave up six hits and four runs in seven innings while striking-out five batters. But it was reliever Alfredo Aceves who took the loss after allowing two runs in just over an inning. For Los Angeles
Angels, Kevin Jepsen pitched the perfect ninth for his third win of the season.
Catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia homered to right in the second and added an RBI single in the fourth to put Boston in a decent position. However, the Angels were not prepared to give up as they came back from behind to wrap up a memorable victory.
"As long as we get in there, that's fine, but we still want to win the division no matter what," said Torii Hunter, who drove in crucial runs for the Angels. "That's still the priority. We've got 30 more games, so we're just going out there every day and
grinding. We didn't give up tonight."
"It's tough. You never want to lose a game in the bottom of the ninth," Buchholz said. "The pitch he made that tied the game was a pretty good pitch. You can't ever second-guess him. He's throwing the pitches he wants to throw."
It was an amazing game of baseball as both teams tussled for supremacy. Angels showed better fighting skills and determination to prevail and take a crucial 1-0 series lead. Angels have improved their game-play with each passing match-up this season and
it will be interesting to see if they can continue the good work to sweep the struggling Red Sox.
Boston’s Manager Bobby Valentine, on the other hand, will be an extremely worried man these days. Despite the best of his effort, the Red Sox have not come close to meeting expectations. Right now, Valentine and company are placed fourth on the American
League East Division standings, 12 games behind the leaders New York Yankees. Surely, Valentine will be hoping to prepare a better game plan for the next season.
