Boston Red Sox lose to New York Yankees 0-2 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox were beaten by the New York Yankees 0-2 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Thursday, September 13 in the finale of their three match series.
Yankees’ starter Phil Hughes snatched his 15th win of the year after he tossed up seven plus scoreless innings. Manager Joe Girardi will be very pleased with what he has seen from Hughes this season and surely he will be expecting him to give
similar results in the playoffs.
"Hughes pitched up in the strike zone and we couldn't lay off it," Boston manager Bobby Valentine said. "We were immature in our approach at times."
"If it was the last game of the season (it might have)," Jeter said, "but we know we have enough games left to where once again we have to win our games. That's the bottom line. It doesn't really make a difference what they do because we can't control it.
All we can do is control how we play and we had a good game tonight."
Red Sox’s batting line-up should take the blame for the loss as they failed to take advantage of numerous scoring opportunities. Contrastingly, Yankees scampered to put runs on the board.
Andruw Jones put Yankees on the board with a sacrifice fly hit to right in the fourth inning. Derek singled to centre in the seventh despite having an ankle injury.
Starting pitcher Felix Doubront also paid the price for his errors on the mound as he allowed four hits and two runs to take his ninth loss of the season.
Relief pitchers Junichi Tazawa, Craig Breslow and Mark Melancon combined pitch 2.2 scoreless innings but the Red Sox were unable to score enough runs on Thursday.
Yankees, on the other hand, will be very happy with their effort in last two games of the series. They were hammered in series opener and credit should be given to them for making a strong come back. It will be interesting to see if they can continue their
good work in their next series against the Tampa Bay Rays.
As the season starts to wind down, the Yankees will be looking to carry their winning momentum forward in to their next series.
